'It' remake still happening despite director Cary Fukunaga's exit

With its director leaving the project, it seemed like the new It adaptation might be dead, but the project is apparently still moving forward.

We recently reported that Cary Fukunaga would no longer be directing the adaptation of Stephen King's It. It was expected to go into production this June, but after Fukunaga left, the future of the movie was pretty up in the air.

According to Bloody Disgusting, the project is not dead, but it might be heading back to Warner Bros. The project had previously been shifted to New Line Cinemas due to budget issues. A source also told Bloody Disgusting that Warner Bros. is currently meeting with directors and plans to announce the new director within the next few weeks.

Evidently, part of the disagreement between Fukunaga and the studio was that the director wanted to shoot the film in New York, but the studios wanted to change up the location in order to cut costs. The movie was originally going to be released in two films, but it's unclear if that's still the plan at Warner Bros. There's also no word yet if Will Poulter will still be playing Pennywise in the film.
