Defense lawyers in the trial of convicted Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev are expected to rest after testimony on Thursday.
WBUR reported that the defense will rest its case after more testimony about conditions for Tsarnaev if he is sentenced to life in prison rather than given the death penalty.
The Boston Globe noted that on Wednesday, defense attorneys described for jurors what life may be like for the 21-year-old if they give him the life sentence.
The attorneys said that Tsarnaev would be in locked in a cell for 23 hours a day, be limited to two 15-minute phone calls per month and be held under such conditions at Colorado’s U.S. Penitentiary Administrative Maximum Facility, known as a “supermax” prison.
The jury that will be deciding Tsarnaev’s fate is the same jury that found him guilty of 30 counts for the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Three people were killed and another 260 were injured when pressure-cooker bombs he and his brother planted exploded near the finish line.
