Brad Bird’s second live-action film, Disney’s Tomorrowland with George Clooney, hits theaters later this month. After that, his next project will be a sequel to his first beloved Pixar movie, The Incredibles.
In an interview with Collider, Bird said that he has several pages already written for Incredibles 2 and even has ideas from the first film that he could use, too.
“There are new ideas I have, and I think there are enough of those together to make an interesting movie,” Bird told the site. “I’m just focusing on getting Tomorrowland out into the world and playing with the Incredibles sandbox again.”
When asked if Incredibles 2 would definitely be his next feature, Bird replied, “Yeah it feels like it to me, yeah.”
Bird also talked about Star Wars, since he was approached by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy about directing Episode VII. That job eventually went to J.J. Abrams and since Josh Trank isn’t directing the second Star Wars Anthology movie, some wonder if Bird will take that job.
He didn’t say that the Star Wars door was closed to him, but the Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol director said he didn’t really want to go into details on it. “Yeah in fact just avoid all this Star Wars stuff. Everybody’s feeding too much on that anyway,” he said.
Disney and Pixar announced plans for an Incredibles 2 in March 2014 and Bird said he started writing it in April.
Tomorrowland hits theaters on May 22.
