Bill Cosby speaks to ABC, dodges questions about sexual assault allegations

Bill Cosby finally did a sit-down interview for the first time since he began facing accusations of sexual assault from over 25 women.

In an interview that aired on Good Morning America this morning, Cosby said didn’t directly address the allegations, but did say that he hopes students can separate his messages from the messenger.

Cosby was interviewed in Alabama, where he is set to speak with high school students tonight. When asked what he would say if the students call him a hypocrite, Cosby said he didn’t think that would happen.

“I’m not sure they will come like that,” Cosby told ABC News’ Linsey Davis. “I think that many of them say, ‘Well, you’re a hypocrite. You say one thing, you say the other.’ My point is, ‘OK, I’m telling you where the road is out. You want to go here or you want to be concerned about who’s giving you the message.’”

Cosby was asked if he thought the allegations would overshadow whatever that message is.

“I have been in this business for 52 years,” the former Cosby Show star replied. “And I will... I’ve never seen anything like this. And reality is the situation. And I can’t speak.”

According to the Associated Press, Cosby is speaking on behalf of the Black Belt Community Foundation, which asked him to speak at Selma High School. After that, he will take the students across the history Edmund Pettus Bridge.

“At the end of the day, what is most important is ... how do we make sure that the world knows that the Black Belt children matter,” Felicia Lucky, the foundation’s president told ABC News.

Over 40 women have accused Cosby of rape and drugging since last year. Two more came forward earlier this month, including an actress who appeared in an episode of The Cosby Show. When the scandal broke, NBC cancelled plans for a new series and Netflix delayed the release of a new standup special.

More of Davis’ interview with Cosby will air during Nightline.
