10. Debbie Gibson – singer and actress
Singer and later actress Debbie Gibson hit the top of the charts with her song “Only in My Dreams” in the 1980s. Later work included songs such as “Shake Your Love,” movies such as Rock of Ages and television shows such as Celebrity Apprentice. In April 2014, she spoke out about her struggle with Lyme disease. Gibson’s official blog addressed the issue, stating, “It is an elusive disease that disguises itself as many other things and creates a lot of pain and discomfort along the way.” After chronicling her health struggles, the post ends with a plea to readers about not judging others regarding weight as many had expressed disgust over Gibson’s thin body: “Amidst the posts online celebrating the wonderful concerts in Santiago, I would come across comments about my weight and appearance. Some were just plain mean and ignorant. I want to urge you all… NEVER JUDGE… ANYONE! You never know what someone is going through.”
