Sony Pictures Classics has picked up I Saw The Light, the new biopic starring Tom Hiddleston as country music icon Hank Williams.
The film will follow Williams’ sudden rise through to his tragic early death. Williams recorded songs like “Move It On Over,” “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry,” “Your Cheatin’ Heart” and others, all before his death in 1953. He was only 29.
Marc Abraham wrote and directed the movie, based on Colin Escott’s Williams biography. Other members of the cast include Elizabeth Olsen, Bradley Whitford, David Krumholtz and Cherry Jones.
Producers on the film include RatPac Entertainment’s Brett Ratner and Aaron L. Gilbert of Bron Studios, notes TheWrap. Executive producers are RatPac’s James Packer and Creative Wealth Media Finance’s Jason Cloth.
Hiddleston is best known for playing Loki in Thor and The Avengers. His next film is the Guillermo Del Toro horror movie Crimson Peak.
SPC did not set a release date. Considering that the distributor has had an incredible success with the Oscars, you can bet it will be released during the awards season. SPC distributed Still Alice and Foxcatcher last year.
