A teenager in Nepal has been rescued after being trapped for five days under the rubble left behind by Saturday’s devastating earthquake.
Good Morning America reported that the 15-year-old was pulled from the rubble of a collapsed seven-story building Thursday by a U.S. search-and-rescue team looking for survivors in the capital city of Kathmandu.
The rescue workers said that they heard someone cry out and immediately started digging. Once they got the teen out, he was placed on a stretcher and transported to a local hospital.
This rescue comes after the rescue Tuesday of 28-year-old Rishi Khanal, who was trapped for more than 80 hours, and a 4-month-old infant, who was found alive under debris on Sunday.
So far, the death toll from the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that shook the region over the weekend has now topped 5,000 and many fear that the number will continue to rise. However, rescue workers from several countries stationed in the area hope to find more people and have other amazing survival stories.
