Ted Nugent made even more inflammatory remarks during the National Rifle Association's annual meeting, this time focusing on Senate Minority leader Harry Reid.
The guitarist gave a talk on April 12 at the meeting in Nashville, called “Freedom is not Free and We the People Must Keep it Alive!” Media Matters obtained video from the event, which includes Nugent saying he would like to shoot the retiring Nevada senator.
“How and why did the NRA ever endorse Harry Reid to serve as the front man of Osama Obama?” a member of the crowd asked Nugent. The man was referencing the fact that the NRA did donate $4,000 to his 2010 reelection campaign, but Reid has supported new gun legislation since then. The NRA never did publicly endorse Reid, though.
Nugent then did an impression of Reid and called him a “lying prick.” As Salon notes, Nugent also criticised people who leave the NRA because of its donations to Reid.
“If your child is dying and there is only one way to get to the doctor, would you get on Harry Reid's boat to get there?” Nugent asked the crowd. When many said they would not, Nugent replied, “I'd get on the boat, get there, and then I'd shoot him.”
Nugent has never been quiet about his opinion of President Barack Obama and other Democrats. He once compared the Obama administration to Nazi Germany and even made former Texas Gov. Rick Perry uncomfortable when he called Obama a “subhuman mongrel.”
