The second sequel to J.J. Abrams' Star Trek is still over a year away, but the movie may finally have an official title.

Trekmovie.com is reporting that the third film will be titled Star Trek Beyond. Paramount has evidently registered this name with the Motion Picture Association of America.
This title makes sense with what we've heard about the movie, which will apparently take Kirk and the crew on their five-year mission into deep space. Simon Pegg has said that the new movie is aiming to be more like the original series, capturing its sense of adventure, as we previously reported.
“It's a story about frontierism and adventure and optimism and fun, and that’s where we want to take it, you know, where no man has gone before — where no one has gone before, sensibly corrected for a slighter more enlightened generation,” Pegg said last month.
Simon Pegg is also promising the movie will have a "kickass" villain role for Idris Elba, according to MTV movies. He also said that Elba will be playing a new character not in any previous Trek installments, although that's what they said about Benedict Cumberbatch's role in Star Trek Into Darkness, and we all remember how that turned out.
Star Trek 3 will be directed by Justin Lin, who previously directed many of the Fast and Furious movies. Lin is replacing Roberto Orci, who was originally set to direct the movie but who stepped down back in December, as we previously reported. Orci is still on as a producer.
All this is happening while J.J. Abrams, who brought Star Trek back into theaters and directed the previous two movies, is off doing Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens. It remains to be seen if the rebooted Star Trek series will be able to survive without him.
Star Trek Beyond will hit theaters on July 8, 2016.
