Sir Isaac Newton becomes crime fighter in Warner Bros. project

Sir Isaac Newton is already a hero in the science community, but now Warner Bros. wants to make him a crime fighter in the movies. The studio has reportedly picked up a script that focuses on Newton tracking down a criminal. Unlike Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter though, this one is actually rooted in real history.

News of the project was first reported by Deadline and also confirmed by Entertainment Weekly.

Titled Principia, it will be produced by David S. Goyer (Man of Steel, Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy). It was written by Christian Contreras, who was seen in bit parts in Fury and Zero Dark Thirty.

While the Deadline report doesn’t really get into the details of the plot of Principia, EW does note that Newton was the Master of the Mint for three decades. So it is possible that the film centers on some counterfeiter that Newton, who is best known for his three laws of motion, had to find. (Now, doesn’t that sound like an exciting movie?) Deadline did note that the film is expected to have a tone similar to The Prestige.

Goyer does have an interest in turning historical figures into fodder for Hollywood. He currently oversees Da Vinci’s Demons, which will be back for another season on Starz in the fall.

It’s not clear when production would start on Principia, considering it is at such an early stage.
