Officials from three countries said on Thursday that the search for missing Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 will double if nothing is found by next month.
The Associated Press noted that officials from Malaysia, Australia and China said that they are still committed to finding the missing aircraft and will expand their search and efforts to locate it.
At a meeting in Kuala Lumpur, ministers from the countries spoke about widening the search for the ill-fated MH370 in the Indian Ocean.
“If the aircraft is not found within the 60,000 square km, we have collectively decided to extend the search to another 60,000 square km within the highest probability area,” said Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai.
“We are confident we are searching in the right area,” Australian Deputy Prime Minister and transport minister Warren Truss said. “We are confident we have the best search equipment ... if the plane is in the area we will find it.”
As previously reported, on March 8, 2014, the Boeing 777 vanished without a trace after leaving Kuala Lumpur enroute to Beijing. The plane was carrying 12 crew members and more than 200 passengers.
