Ringo Starr says Paul McCartney helped get him in Rock Hall of Fame as a solo artist

Ringo Starr has a new album and is coincidentally finally joining the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He has always gotten by with a little help from his friends and it turns out that the he needed some of that help getting in the Hall of Fame.

While chatting with Entertainment Tonight, Starr said that his fellow former Beatle, Paul McCartney, talked to the Rock Hall in Cleveland to get the drummer in there. While Starr is already a Hall of Famer as a member of the Beatles, he is now the last member to join as a solo artist.

“They were all surprised that I wasn't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,” Starr said of his fellow All-Starr Band members. “And [Paul] talked to somebody and they're going to put me in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and he's going to give me away like I'm the bride and I will accept.”

Starr will receive the Award for Musical Excellence on April 18, during the induction ceremony. McCartney will be there to speak, while Joe Walsh of the Eagles will perform Starr’s music. Walsh is also a close friend of Starr’s and appears on his new album, Postcards from Paradise. (Walsh is also married to Starr’s sister-in-law.)

“Even though there's very little record industry left, I like to make records because I write. I write with songwriters; I play with other good musicians,” Starr said in an interview with Reuters. “Because it's what I do.”

Starr’s new album was released on Tuesday. Be sure to check out our Top 10 Ringo Starr Songs You’ve Never Heard list.
