Rex Ryan responds to Jets' Jace Amaro: 'He's full of s**t'

The Buffalo Bills landed on the cover of Sports Illustrated for a story about how Rex Ryan will completely change the team and finally lead the franchise back to the playoffs. However, the most interesting parts of the story are Ryan’s shots at the New York Jets, the team that fired him after a disastrous 2014 season.

Ryan was particularly angry with Jets tight end Jace Amaro, who was a rookie in 2014. Amaro said on Sirius XM NFL Radio on April 6 that no one was being held accountable last year.

“Guys just weren't accountable last year as much as they could be. I think that's the biggest thing,” Amaro said at the time, notes NJ.com.

In his interview with SI, Ryan made it clear that he disagrees.

“He’s full of s**t, and I’ll remind him of that when we play him,” Ryan said. “Look, we weren’t perfect, and I never said we were going to be perfect. But that’s a f****** b.s. comment. But, hey, he’s happy that he’s got a different coach in place. We’ll see how happy he is when I play against him.”

Ryan also said that he lost control of the Jets when GM Mike Tannenbaum was replaced by John Izik. That made him feel like a “leftover” from the old regime.

“I wasn’t the boss anymore,” Ryan told SI. “I was just a guy. Whether they want to say it or not, all of a sudden I became less important to the team.”

He also said that it was clear that he was going to be fired after the team only won four games in 2014.

The minute I felt uncomfortable, I should have said something to Woody and made sure he knew exactly how I felt,” Rex added. “But when hires are made after you’re hired, I didn’t want to question that. How can I preach that I’m all on board if I do that?”

Ryan ended up going to the Bills, who are in the same AFC East division as the Jets. He’ll still have to play them and the New England Patriots twice a year. The Jets replaced him with Todd Bowles.
