Pregnant Popeye's manager fired after robbery sues for $5.5 million

A pregnant Popeye’s shift manager who wouldn’t pay back the money that was stolen during the Channelview, Texas location she worked at is now suing for $5.5 million.

Back on March 31, an armed robber stole $400 from the fast food restaurant during Marissa Holcomb’s shift. On April 21, Holcomb told KHOU her story, claiming that she was fired for refusing to pay back the $400. The franchise owner, Z&H Foods, Inc. refuted that claim, saying that she had multiple rule violations in the past and should not have had that much cash left in a register.

The day after Holcomb came forward and her story went viral, Z&H offered Holcomb her job back and $2,000 back pay. However, Holcomb, who has three other children, was apprehensive about returning.

Today, KHOU is reporting that Holcomb is suing for $5.5 million, claiming that she has suffered emotional distress.

“Even though you have offered to give the job back to her only to save face after experiencing bad publicity, the damage from your egregious conduct has been done,” her attorney said in a letter to Popeye’s and the franchise.

Even though she’s suing the company, Holcomb has actually returned to work at a different Popeye’s location. She will start working there tomorrow.
