Pregnant Popeye's manager fired after not paying back money from armed robbery

A pregnant mom claims that she was fired from her job as shift manager at a Channelview, Texas Popeye’s restaurant after the store was robbed and she refused to pay the money back.

The armed robber stole $400 from the cash registers and was even caught on tape doing so on March 31. Still, Marissa Holcomb told KHOU that one of her managers told her that she needed to pay back the money since it happened during her shift.

“I told them I'm not paying nothing,” Holcomb said. “ just had a gun to me. I'm not paying the money.”

The surveillance tape shows the gunman fording the other employees to the floor while pointing his weapon. He then took Holcomb by the shirt and told her to get everything out of a safe. However, the only thing she could do was open the registers.

Thirty-six hours after the robbery, Holcomb was fired.

Z&H Foods Inc., which owns the local Popeye’s franchise, would not give KHOU an on camera statement. However, they told KEYE-TV that Holcomb has repeatedly violated policies. Apparently, in this situation, she left too much money in the register at the time of the robbery

Holcomb told KHOU that she left that much in the register because the restaurant was busy.

She is also frustrated because she is five-months pregnant with her fourth child. They will now have to live on just her husband’s income.
