Paul McCartney has been performing live for 50 years, so it has to come as a shock to learn that there are some of his Beatles songs that he has never performed live before. One of those was “Another Girl” from HELP!. The song was finally performed for the first time ever on Tuesday during a show at Japan’s Nippon Budokan.
It was McCartney’s first show at the historic venue since The Beatles played it in 1966, notes NME. Of course, he would have performed there last year, but had to cancel due to an illness.
"It was sensational and quite emotional remembering the first time and then experiencing this fantastic audience tonight,” McCartney said after the show. “It was thrilling for us and we think it was probably the best show we did in Japan and it was great to be doing the Budokan 49 years later. It was crazy. We loved it.”
“Another Girl” is one of the lesser-known songs featured on 1965’s HELP! and in the film of the same name. The group never performed it live together, so Tuesday really did mark the first time any Beatle ever sang the song live.
The rest of Tuesday’s set featured many of the other songs McCartney typically plays these days, including “All My Loving,” “Maybe I’m Amazed,” “Live And Let Die,” “Let It Be” and “Got To Get You Into My Life.”
Hopefully, McCartney dusts off more deep cuts during his next U.S. tour.
