Olivia Munn snags a role in 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

Olivia Munn is joining the X-Men universe. Director Bryan Singer confirmed that she will play Psylocke in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse.

Singer posted a picture of Munn on his Instagram page, writing, “Excited to welcome @oliviamunn as Betsy Braddock! #Psylocke #XmenApocalypse#XMEN.”

Psylocke has been a member of the comic book team since 1976, but she hasn’t made much of an impact on the big screen. As Variety notes, Mei Melancon played the character in a brief appearance in X-Men: The Last Stand (2006).

Several other new faces are joining the franchise for the follow-up to last year’s successful X-Men: Days of Future Past, which was also helmed by Singer. Kodi Smit-McPhee is playing Nightcrawler, while Sophie Turner is playing Jean Grey. Alexandra Shipp is playing Storm and Tye Sheridan is Cyclops. Oscar Isaac will play the villain Apocalypse.

Jennifer Lawrence, who is making her last appearance in the franchise, will return, along with Nicholas Hoult, James McAvoy and Michael Fassbinder.

Munn has been slowly building a respectable resume in recent years, starring on HBO’s The Newsroom and recently in Johnny Depp’s Mortdecai and Deliver Us From Evil. Her next film is Ride Along 2 with Kevin Hart and Ice Cube.

Apocalypse hits theaters on May 27, 2016.
