LAPD detective’s girlfriend barricaded in home, may have assault rifle

Authorities have said that the girlfriend of a Los Angeles detective has barricaded herself inside her home and may be armed with an AK-47.

CBSLA.com reported that police were called to the Van Nuys home early Wednesday morning for a domestic violence disturbance. Arriving officers found the woman’s boyfriend with minor injuries and his girlfriend refusing to cooperate.

The Associated Press noted that her boyfriend, an LAPD detective, is the one who called 911.

“We’ve heard a rumor that there is an AK-47 – that has not been verified at this time, so we are working on that assumption and out of an abundance of caution we are going to move very slowly,” said Capt. Andy Neiman. “Our SWAT team is going to do everything they can do this very peacefully and very methodically.”

Because of the possible severity of the situation, law enforcement officials evacuated several nearby homes as they became engaged in a standoff with the woman.
