Guillermo Del Toro gives an update on his 'Justice League Dark' movie

Filmmaker Guillermo Del Toro gave an update on his potential Justice League Dark movie, which would feature the supernatural characters in the DC Comics universe. Considering all the other projects he has on his plate, he could be forgiven for not mentioning the project for two years.

While talking with IGN during an event for his FX show The Strain, del Toro said that he had already given Warner Bros. a script. It’s just a matter of finding the time to make the film.

“We turned in our [script] revision, and it all depends on the calendar, you know?” del Toro told the site. “If I can do it, I would love to do it. And I think the screenplay and the characters are very solid.”

Del Toro explained that he really can’t commit to directing a movie that’s set in a shared universe, so someone else will have to sit in the director’s chair.

“You cannot say, ‘Yeah, I’ll do it after I do this,’ or ‘I have the first season of The Strain," said the filmmaker. "[Justice League Dark] needs to fall into the plan of the DC Universe."

This is the first time we’ve heard from del Toro on the film since March 2013. Justice League Dark would feature DC’s supernatural heroes with a roster that includes John Constantine, The Demon, Swamp Thing and Deadman. The characters were brought together as a group in 2011.

Justice League Dark was not among the movies Warner Bros. announced in October 2014, so there isn’t a timetable set. Still, del Toro would have few empty blocks in his schedule to make it, considering he’s making Pacific Rim 2. His Crimon Peak opens in October.
