Goon, the 2011 cult hockey comedy, is finally getting the sequel fans have been desperately waiting for. Star Seann William Scott confirmed the news, as did Jay Baruchel a few weeks ago.
Scott made his comments about the new film in a Reddit AMA session on Wednesday. He said that he has been training with an MMA fighter and doing much more skating.
“We start shooting GOON 2 in mid-June, and if everybody does their jobs and we execute the amazing script that Jay and his co-writer wrote, the f***ing movie would be wicked,” Scott wrote.
This comes just a few weeks after Baruchel told Canada’s Global News that the new movie is being made “after a very long time, a lot of hard work and blood, sweat and tears.” It will be shot in Ontario.
Goon was filmed in Manitoba and stars Scott as an outcast who becomes a hockey star because he beats the sh*t out of everyone. Baruchel co-starred in the original and co-wrote it with Seth Rogen’s regular producing partner, Evan Goldberg.
The film was screened at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival and only made $6.5 million at the box office. However, since the film is readily available on Netflix and other streaming services, it has become a cult hit.
According to Entertainment Weekly, there is still no plot synopsis for Goon 2 and no release date.
