On Your Feet! now has its Gloria Estefan and Emilio Estefan. Producers have found who will play the singer and her husband of 37 years in the Broadway show about their love story.
The casting was announced during this morning’s Today Show. Ana Villafane and Josh Segarra will star as Gloria and Emilio, respectively. The two stars were on Today, along with the real Gloria and Emilio.
“I grew up performing her songs at talent shows - and I went to her same high school,” Villafane said.
The musical, which will feature many of Gloria’s iconic hits, was first announced in May 2014. In August, producers announced a nationwide search for stars.
While the musical will reach Broadway, the production will open in Chicago first, playing at the Oriental Theater in June. The Broadway run will start with previews on Oct. 5 at the Marquis Theatre. The official opening is set for Nov. 5.
Aside from the hit that the musical gets its title from, Estefan’s other hits include “Rhythm is Gonna Get You,” “Conga” and “1-2-3.”
