Warner Bros. and DC Comics must be ready to start working on their future films, because things are finally starting to move on post-Suicide Squad movies. James Wan is now reportedly being considered to helm Aquaman.
Sources for The Hollywood Reporter say that Wan has not been offered a deal yet, but talks have started.
The Saw director just finished Furious 7, which is riding high at the box office. However, his next immediate project takes him back to his horror roots with The Conjuring 2: The Enfield Poltergeist. In addition, he does have a contract option for Fast & Furious 8, which Universal could decide to pick up when the studio finally starts work on it.
Aquaman is scheduled to hit theaters on July 27, 2018, but it seems to be about as far along as 2019’s The Flash. That movie just got Phil Lord and Christopher Miller to develop the script. For Aquaman, Warner Bros. is going another route, with Will Beall and Kurt Johnstad working on two different scripts.
Jason Momoa will make his debut as Aquaman in Zach Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice on March 15. The character is also a member of the Justice League, which opens in November 2017.
Wan will have an interesting challenge ahead with Aquaman if he does do it, since the character has mostly been the butt of jokes. But Snyder and Momoa could change all that first, which will help out Wan significantly.
