Ellen DeGeneres to produce 'Green Eggs and Ham' series for Netflix

Netflix is expanding its ever-growing roster of children’s programming with a new series based on the timeless Dr. Seuss book Green Eggs and Ham. Executive produced by Ellen DeGeneres, the 13-episode series will expand on the relationship between an inventor and Sam I Am, who wants to feed him green eggs and ham.

The streaming service made the announcement on Wednesday in a press release written in rhyme, just like the book. The “richly animated” series will have Sam I Am going on a cross-country adventure with the inventor, who bond during a road trip.

Cindy Holland, VP of Original Content for Netflix, said in a statement:

We think this will be a hit
Green Eggs and Ham is a perfect fit
for our growing slate of amazing stories
available exclusively in all Netflix territories.
You can stream it on a phone.
You can stream it on your own.
You can stream it on TV.
You can stream it globally.

Jared Stern, who is writing the LEGO Movie sequel, is writing the series, which will debut in 2018. Stern, DeGeneres, Jeff Kleeman, Mike Karz and David Dobkin are executive producers. It is a collaboration between A Very Good Production, A Stern Talking To, Gulfstream Television and Warner Bros. Animation. Warner Bros. TV is handling distribution.

DeGeneres also announced the new project on her show Wednesday.

Netflix is also the home of exclusive DreamWorks Animation shows and an upcoming Magic School Bus reboot.

As for Dr. Seuss, television is no stranger to specials based on his iconic books, but this will be the first series based on one. Recently, Hollywood has had hits with Seuss film adaptations with Fox’s Horton Hears A Who! and Universal’s The Lorax.
