Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson to sing in Disney's 'Moana'

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson tested out his singing skills on Saturday Night Live this past weekend, but that won’t be the last time we hear him sing. He has joined the voice cast for Moana, the upcoming Disney Animation Studios feature.

The Rock announced the news himself on Twitter, including a picture of himself signing the contract. He said he saw a two-hour presentation for the film and he clearly was impressed. “It's easy to see why they're the greatest story tellers in the world,” he wrote.

The actor is definitely going to sing, since Moana is planned as a musical. Moana was confirmed in October and will feature a Polynesian princess. It is being directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, the same team behind Aladdin and The Princess and the Frog.

Moana follows the success of last year’s Big Hero 6, which became the second consecutive Disney Animation Studios feature to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature and Frozen did the same. It will hit theaters on Nov. 23, 2016.

Disney also plans to release Zootopia in March 2016, so there are no new features from the animation team coming in 2015.

As for Johnson, you can see him in his typical element in Furious 7 this weekend.
