Even though the film doesn’t come out until 2017, producer Jerry Bruckheimer shared the first official photo of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Of course, it shows Johnny Depp back in full Captain Jack Sparrow attire.
Bruckheimer posted the photo on his Twitter page today. It shows Jack tied to a pole on a ship, with two men standing at his side. It looks like he has found himself in some trouble... again.
“Captain Jack is back and we’re not letting him go,” Bruckheimer wrote.
Production on the new movie started in February, with Disney confirming that Javier Bardem will be playing the villainous Captain Salazar. There’s also an evil ghost pirate army (are there every any good ghost armies?) that wants to kill all pirates. Jack has to find the Trident of Poseidon to stop them.
Brenton Thwaites, Kaya Scodelario and Golshifteh Farahani are also joining Depp and returning co-stars Geoffrey Rush, Kevin R. McNally and Stephen Graham. Joachim Ronning and Espen Sandberg, who directed Kon Tiki, are directing the new film.
Production on the film was delayed in March due to Depp’s hand injury. However, he arrived back in Australia Monday, so hopefully filming will resume.
Dead Men Tell No Tales hits theaters on July 7, 2017, six years after the last film in the franchise, On Stranger Tides.
