The Cannes Film Festival announced the lineup for its Cannes Classics section, which includes new restorations of celebrated classics, documentaries about filmmakers and an appearance by legendary Greek director Costa-Gavras. There will also be a celebration of the 100th anniversary of Orson Welles’ birth.

Costa-Gavras will be the guest of honor and there will be screening of a new restoration of Z, his 1968 film that was nominated for the Best Picture Oscar. The director also won an Oscar for co-writing his 1982 film Missing, which also won the Palme d’or. Z won the 1969 Cannes jury prize.
The Welles Centennial celebration will include screenings of Citizen Kane, The Lady From Shanghai and Carol Reed’s The Third Man. There will also be screenings of two documentaries about Welles.
Other documentaries include Steve McQueen: The Man & Le Mans, By Sidney Lumet, Hitchcock/Truffaut and the previously announced Ingrid Bergman, In Her Own Words. The Golden Palm’s Legend, a new documentary about the festival’s big prize, will also be shown.
Some of the other classics that will be screened include Luchino Visconti's Rocco and His Brothers, Louis Malle’s Elevator to the Gallows, Julien Duvivier’s Panique and Alexander Korda’s Marius.
