ABC has finally scheduled the premiere of Astronaut Wives Club, the network’s long-gestating period drama about the women behind the lives of astronauts during NASA’s early days.

The series is based on the book by Lily Koppel and the pilot was directed by An Education director Lone Scherfig.
The cast includes JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Yvonne Strahovski, Dominique McElligott, Odette Annabelle, Erin Cummings, Azure Parsons, Zoe Boyle, Desmond Harrington, Bret Harrison, Wilson Bethel, Kenneth Mitchell, Joel Johnstone, Sam Reid and Aaron McCusker.
ABC first ordered a pilot based on Koppel’s book in January 2014 and was at one point going to air this midseason. However, the show remained absent from the schedule. It wasn’t even on ABC’s first summer schedule, which was announced earlier this month.
Developed by Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl), the series tells the story of the wives of the Mercury astronauts during the 1950s Space Race. Chuck’s Josh Schwartz is among the executive producers.
Astronaut Wives Club will debut on Thursday, June 18 as the lead-in for the two-hour premiere of Mistresses’ new season.
