ABC cancels Emily VanCamp's 'Revenge' ahead of fourth season finale

ABC will get to bill the May 10 season finale of Revenge as a series finale. The network has cancelled the primetime soap opera.

Showrunner Sunil Nayar confirmed the news to TV Line. Deadline also confirmed it.

The series, which stars Emily VanCamp, was building towards a finale, especially with Madeleine Stowe already leaving this season.

“To say we’re approaching this as the last season would be wrong,” Nayar told TV Line, noting that the writers weren’t thinking of season four as the last one. “But we’re not scared to make choices that will make people ask ‘Where is this going?'”

The series finale will air on Sunday, May 10 and was already titled “Two Graves.”

Revenge started off with a surprisingly successful run in the middle of the week, but as its ratings began declining, ABC moved it to Sundays. The show also survived the departure of its creator, Mike Kelley, who reportedly clashed with ABC over the number of episodes for each season. He preferred a shorter, 13-episode season, but ABC wanted a longer, traditional 22-episode season.

Stowe earned the show’s only Golden Globe nomination during its four-year run in 2012. Other members of the cast included Gabriel Mann, Nick Wechsler, Josh Bowman and Christa B. Allen.
