If you live in a city when the zombie apocalypse breaks out, you have to get out of there as quickly as possible. Cornell University researchers have posted a zombie apocalypse simulator and it makes it pretty obvious that the East Coast is the worst possible place to be when a zombie virus breaks out.
The study, called “The Statistical Mechanics of Zombies,” will be released later this week, reports The Huffington Post. Researchers say that their findings show that the northern Rockies is the best place to be when zombies take over the U.S.
Researchers created a zombie apocalypse simulator, which allows you to click on a location and see how quickly the zombie virus would spread from there.
According to The Atlantic, the simulation is based on 2010 Census data. The spread of the virus can be adjusted by playing with the bite-to-kill ratio. If you set the ratio to zero - meaning that no humans are able to kill zombies, the virus spreads like wildfire, especially if you drop it in any of the major cities on the East Coast.
In addition, the simulator doesn’t figure in the possibility of a cure, where zombies could go back to being human.
“For normal diseases you either get better on your own, or you might die,” researcher Alexi Alemo told New Scientist. “Zombies don't get better, nor do they die, so the only way you can get rid of a zombie is for a human to actively kill it.”
