Warner Bros. and New Line have decided to take an early Vacation. The studios moved up the reboot of the iconic comedy franchise to July from October.

The new film stars Ed Helms (The Office, The Hangover) as a grown up Rusty Griswold. Christina Applegate is starring as his wife, while Thor’s Chris Hemsworth has been enlisted to star Audrey Griswold’s husband. Audrey will be played by Leslie Mann (The Other Woman, This Is 40).
Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo, who starred in the original films, will be making cameos.
The new film was written and directed by John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein.
Vacation was supposed to open on Oct. 9, but The Hollywood Reporter confirmed on Monday that the movie has been moved up. It will now open on July 31, as counterprogramming for Paramount and Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation.
The new Jake Gyllenhaal film, Southpaw, also opens that day. The following weekend, Fox’s Fantastic Four hits theaters.
National Lampoon’s Vacation kicked off the series in 1983 and was directed by Harold Ramis and written by John Hughes. That was followed by 1985’s European Vacation, 1989’s Christmas Vacation and 1997’s Vegas Vacation.
