The University of Oklahoma shut down the Sigma Alpha Epsilon chapter Sunday night and the school said it is looking into the possibility of expelling students who participated in the racist-chant video.
Good Morning America reported that the video was posted to Twitter by a black student with the student-run organization called Unheard. It shows white OU students chanting while using a racial slur and referencing lynching.
In the video, the male students can be heard singing, "There will never be a n----r at SAE."
The tweet from Unheard was directed at the University’s president David Boren, informing him that "Racism is alive at The University of Oklahoma."
Boren later said he was “sickened” by what he saw in the video and in a written statement said that all ties with Sigma Alpha Epsilon are now “severed.” Boren also is looking into disciplinary action against all the students who appeared in the video and joined in the racist chant.
Some students shared pictures via social media of the former SAE house with graffiti on the side, which appeared to read “Tear it down.”
