Trevor Noah didn’t get a long honeymoon. Just after getting picked to replace Jon Stewart on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show, the South African comedian’s Twitter history is coming under scrutiny. And some people don’t like what they see.

Noah has been on Twitter since 2009 and now has over 2 million followers, a number that has been pumped up since Monday’s announcement. If you scroll back far enough, you can find some of his jokes from his early days on the social network and some of them are pretty eye-opening.
Many of the jokes are about Jews and some target women, notes Salon. Many of the jokes about Israel lead the Daily Caller to wonder if he is “anti-Israel.”
One of the most linked jokes is one from 2009, when he wrote, “Almost bumped a Jewish kid crossing the road. He didn't look b4 crossing but I still would hav felt so bad in my german car!”

In October 2011, he wrote, “‘Oh yeah the weekend. People are gonna get drunk & think that I'm sexy!’ - fat chicks everywhere.”
In January 2012, he wrote, “Messi gets the ball and the real players try foul him, but Messi doesn't go down easy, just like jewish chicks. #ElClasico.”
Noah, whose mother is black and father is white, often jokes about race in his work, even doing a one-man show called The Racist. So it’s possible to give him the benefit of the doubt that he was just trying out unfunny jokes on Twitter. Still, one has to wonder how long he will go without addressing them before he finally takes over The Daily Show later this year.
