6.Kicking & Screaming
With Elf and his voice work in Curious George, Ferrell proved he could be just as likable and funny in family films as he could in PG-13 affairs like Anchorman and R-rated films like Old School. However he made a sluggish, decidedly mundane trip to family territory in Kicking & Screaming.
Ferrell looks like he's struggling throughout to make this material work, but it's too half-thought an idea to shine. Even worse, it manages to ring in Robert Duvall to star and also makes him waste his talents. That's a cinematic sin no one should ever commit, just like last year's awful The Judge. Also, Kicking & Screaming has the audacity to make fans of Noah Bambauch's film have to state which one they refer to in casual conversation. An unneeded effort if ever there was one.
