An abandoned mansion in Ohio that was built by retired boxer Mike Tyson during the 1980s is now owned by a church.

The mansion was built in Southington, Ohio, 50 miles southeast of Cleveland. It may sound like a strange place to live at the height of his fame, but he needed to be close to promoter Don King’s training facility in Orwell. According to WKYC-TV, Tyson did move back to the mansion in the 1990s after his three-year prison sentence for rape. His financial problems in 1999 forced him to sell the mansion to TV marketer Paul Monea, who bought it for $1.3 million.
Monea - who is now in prison on conspiracy and money laundering - never lived in the mansion. In 2010, the mansion was sold to Ron Hemelgam, an entrepreneur, for $600,000 at a sheriff’s sale. He then donated the property to The Living World Sanctuary church in December. According to TMZ Sports, the church’s pastor said that they paid $750,000 for the land.
Photographer Johnny Joo posted photos of inside the mansion on Architectural Life, and they show what the decadent, 58-acre property looks like after years of no one living in it. The gate still have Tyson’s name on it and there is an indoor pool. There’s also a large room that looks perfect for a church service and a spiral staircase.
The Living World Sanctuary is planning on restoring the building.
