After two-year protests over low wages, McDonald’s employees have now brought safety accusations against the fast-food giant.
The Associated Press reported that on Monday, workers in 19 different cities said they filed 28 different complaints alleging that the restaurants operate under hazardous working conditions.
The complaints were all filed recently with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration. They list everything from grease burns, to a lack of protective gear, to not properly training staffers on how to handle hot fryers.
Reuters noted that employees have also accused some of McDonald’s franchises of wage theft and racial discrimination in retaliation for attempting to unionize.
McDonald’s Corp. is not alone when being accused of a hazardous place to work.
A new survey of 1,426 fast food workers revealed that 82 percent said they have been injured on the job, mostly by burns multiple times.
Workers at many fast food chains have been protesting for the purpose of “Fight for 15," which is a movement advocating higher wages and better treatment of the fast food industry’s employees.
