Man covers himself in Mentos, thinks he can get Coke Zero-full bathtub to explode

Everyone - at least those of us who have watched Mythbusters - knows that if you drop a Mentos in a bottle of Coke explodes like a volcano. But what if you drop a man covered in Mentos in a bathtub full of Coke? That’s what one Japanese YouTube user tried to find out.

Back in July, YouTube user hajime posted a video that shows him dumping Coke Zero into a bathtub. He then puts tape around his body and sticks Mentos all over himself. While a couple of the bottles explode, nothing exciting really happens in the end. It’s really anticlimactic.

If this was posted last summer, why is it going viral now? One way to possibly explain it is that another YouTube user called News of the World posted an edited version in January. That one now has over 1.2 million views. Hajime’s original video has over 6.1 million views.
