There's a whole lot of pressure on Colin Trevorrow. He's currently directing one of the biggest and most anticipated movies of this year, Jurassic World, after having directed only one other film. Now we're hearing about what the director will be up to after he leaves the island.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, DreamWorks has picked up Colin Trevorrow's next project, a sci-fi thriller called Intelligent Life. Trevorrow wrote the script with Derek Connolly, who he also worked with on the Jurassic World screenplay.
Plot details about the movie are scarce, but it was evidently meant to be Trevorrow's followup to Safety Not Guaranteed before he was brought on to Jurassic World. After directing a giant summer blockbuster, Intelligent Life is expected to be more of a low key, small film like Safety Not Guaranteed was.
This is great news for fans of Trevorrow in that we'll be able to see another original work from him and that he won't be moving exclusively to big blockbusters. It could also be a good sign towards Jurassic World, as Jurassic World producers Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall are confident enough in Trevorrow's abilities that they'll be producing Intelligent Life as well.
According to Screen Rant, Intelligent Life is expected to be somewhat rooted in a script Trevorrow previously worked on called The Ambassador, which revolved around a U.N. worker whose job is to represent the Earth in the event of an alien attack, but problems arise when he falls in love with an alien woman.
Colin Trevorrow's first film was Safety Not Guaranteed, a low budget sci-fi comedy about a young reporter (Aubrey Plaza) who investigates a strange man (Mark Duplass) who claims to be a time traveler. It received pretty favorable reviews, but after only directing this small film, Trevorrow was definitely an unexpected pick for a movie as big as Jurassic World.
The Jurassic Park franchise is extremely beloved, so World is definitely the kind of movie that could either launch Trevorrow's career or make fans hate him with a passion forever for destroying Jurassic Park. No pressure!
