Authorities have said that a woman in Detroit was arrested after her two children were found dead inside a deep freezer.

The Detroit Free Press reported that on Tuesday, court officials went to a unit at the Martin Luther King Apartments to evict the tenants and made a gruesome discovery. Once inside the home, court officer Lee Gordon noticed a small deep freezer by the door. When she opened it she found plastic bags with human remains inside.

The Associated Press noted that initial police reports said that it was the body of a woman, but authorities later confirmed that it was the bodies of an 11-year-old boy and 14-year-old girl.

Autopsies are scheduled to be performed on the children to determine their exact cause of death.

The mother was not in the apartment when the bodies were found, but police located her at another unit and arrested her. She has two other children who were placed in protective custody.

The woman lived in the complex with her children for a decade, but was several months behind on her rent which prompted the eviction.
