Are you a Marvel fan excited for the premiere of Avengers: Age of Ultron this May? Are you okay with sitting in the same place for nearly 30 hours? If so, AMC and Regal have the perfect thing for you.
According to Slashfilm, AMC and Regal theaters are planning what they're calling the Ultimate Marvel Marathon. Ultimate is right: the theaters will be screening all 10 Marvel Cinematic Universe movies leading up to the premiere of Age of Ultron. That's a whopping 29 hours of movies in one sitting.
The marathon starts on April 29 at 6:00PM with Iron Man and goes all night and day until Age of Ultron, which premieres at 7:00PM on April 30. There are no breaks and no intermission.
Tickets are $65 a person, which is a pretty good deal considering that comes out to about $6 a movie. That's assuming you'll actually stay for every single movie though, which nobody can possibly do, right?
AMC has done similar movie marathons before, like their recent Best Picture Showcase, a marathon of all the movies nominated for best picture at the Academy Awards. That one was at least two separate days though, and we haven't really seen them do something this extreme before. But Marvel fans can be pretty intense, so there surely will be a lot of people turning out for this ultimate marathon.
Slashfilm also notes that a number of theaters are doing a double feature of The Avengers and The Avengers: Age of Ultron, which is definitely much more manageable for the casual fan.
Age of Ultron is part of Phase 3 of Marvel's Cinematic Universe, a collection of standalone films which link together and crossover into events like The Avengers. Though many of these movies can be watched alone, they all set up characters who later will become important and provide valuable backstory, and in some cases set up vital plot points like some major development of S.H.I.E.L.D in Iron Man 2. Some of these movies are definitely more relevant to the series than others though and could probably be eliminated from a marathon like this if you didn't care about being complete. Guardians of the Galaxy, for example, really takes place in its own separate section of the Marvel universe and likely won't be relevant to Age of Ultron at all.
The latest Avengers movie will see the team getting back together to take down the threat of Ultron, a robot created by Tony Stark which turns on humanity. It's looking to be a game changer for the cinematic universe, with Joss Whedon recently saying the ending is so crazy he's surprised Marvel even let him do it, as we previously reported.
Age of Ultron will hit theaters on May 1.
