4. Leslie and Ron
Definitely the highlight of the show’s final season so far, “Leslie and Ron” is one of the most emotionally satisfying episodes of the entire series. After the first few episodes of Season 7 showed us a mysterious conflict between Leslie and Ron, this bottle episode puts them in a room together to work out their differences. Basically the entire episode is just Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman, and yet it works so incredibly well.
We finally find out that Leslie was furious with Ron because his building company knocked down Ann’s house to build an apartment complex there. Meanwhile, Ron is upset because years prior he had betrayed his principles and was planning to ask for a job with Leslie at the city government because he missed his friends and wanted to continue working for them.
Seeing Ron look around the Parks office and it being filled with strangers is such an emotional moment. We’re so used to seeing that office filled with all the characters we love, and seeing it populated by total strangers just looks so wrong. Ron walking up to see Leslie and being stood up in the diner is so heartbreaking to watch, and is a total testament to how good of a dramatic actor Nick Offerman can be. While the Leslie and Ron conflict could have been a contrived way to get some drama out of the last season, it instead feels completely realistic to everything we know about the characters, and seeing them become friends again fills us with that sense of happiness and positivity that Parks does so well.
