8. While 1943 is best remembered as the year of Casablanca, it was also the last time there were more than five nominees for Best Picture until 2009. One of those nominees was William A. Wellman’s The Ox-Bow Incident, a tight, 75-minute Western starring Henry Fonda. It remains the last movie nominated for Best Picture and nothing else. While Fonda is stellar in it, the movie also features a star-making turn from Anthony Quinn.
