9. Skipping a few years to 1937, we find the original A Star Is Born, starring Janet Gaynor as the young country girl dreaming of taking Hollywood by storm, directed by William A. Wellman. The film was the first color film nominated for Best Picture and also features a stunning performance from Fredric March as the drunk Norman Maine.
