8. Melina Mercouri, Never On Sunday
The 1960 Academy Awards class was one of the best and it surprisingly included Melina Mercouri, a Greek actress that former Blacklisted director Jules Dassin cast in Never On Sunday. The film’s success itself was a surprise. Dassin later married Mercouri, who went on to star in many of his later films. This isn’t quite a movie that’s brought up for discussion a lot, but it’s worth checking out for her performance alone.
