1. Emmanuelle Riva, Amour
Emmanuelle Riva has been in the film business since the 1950s and starred in the seminal French film Hiroshima, mon amour, but was never recognized by the Academy until Amour in 2012. She turned 86 on the day of the 2013 Oscars and should have won for her role as Anne, who suffered from a stroke. Sadly, Lawrence stole the award from her. Nevertheless, the film itself is an achievement, a study in how love lasts.
