4. Burt Lancaster, Atlantic City
It truly is remarkable to think how long Burt Lancaster was around. He gave his final Oscar-nominated performance in Louis Malle’s 1981 masterpiece Atlantic City. The movie was famously nominated for all five of the “Big Five” Oscars and lost them all (a feat recently matched by American Hustle). That should actually be proof that awards don’t matter. Removed from that notorious label, the film is a touching tribute to a city falling in disrepair and an old gangster living in it.
