8. Gene Kelly, Anchors Aweigh
Skipping ahead a few years - quite literally - we arrive at the great Gene Kelly. While the Academy recognized Kelly with a special statute for An American In Paris and another special award in 1952, he was only ever nominated for Best Actor once. Surprisingly, it was for 1945’s Anchors Aweigh. That makes him the only Oscar nominee to ever dance with a cartoon mouse.
