Suge Knight officially charged with murder in hit-and-run, could face life in prison

Former rap mogul Suge Knight was officially charged with murder on Monday in connection with last week’s hit-and-run in Compton, California. If convicted, Knight could be sentenced to life in prison.

On Jan. 29, Knight allegedly got into an argument on the set of the NWA biopic Straight Outta Compton with two men. Minutes later, Knight saw them at a restaurant and authorities believe he followed them. He then allegedly struck the two men with his truck and drove away.

One of the victims, identified as Terry Carter, 55, died. The other, Cle Sloan, 51, was injured.

Knight’s bail was initially set at $2 million, but on Monday, the Los Angeles County district attorney said that his bail been revoked. L.A. County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Nicole Nishida told the Los Angeles Times that the decision was made based on him being a “Possible flight risk, three-strike candidate, possible witness intimidation issues and his criminal past.”

Prosecutors believe that the hit-and-run was intentional, but Knight’s attorney, James E. Blatt, claims that Knight was trying to get away from men attacking him. Blatt also said that Carter was Knight’s friend. However, Sgt. Richard Biddle of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told the Times that Carter’s family has said that he was not friends with Knight.

Knight is already out on bail for his unrelated October robbery case.

According to CNN, Knight’s charges in the case are one count of murder and attempted murder each, two counts of hit-and-run and committing a serious felony while out on bail.
