The 2016 Democratic-presidential candidate and his party members will descend on the city of Brotherly Love in 2016.
The New York Times noted that the Democrats announced Thursday that Philadelphia beat out New York City and Columbus, Ohio to host the Democratic National Convention next year.
As previously reported, the Democrats narrowed it down to those three cities in November.
“In addition to their commitment to a seamless and safe convention, Philadelphia’s deep-rooted place in American history provides a perfect setting for this special gathering,” said Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee.
The state of Ohio didn’t lose out completely though. Last week, the Republicans announced that their party’s upcoming convention will be held in Cleveland.
Winning the bid is huge for Philly, as cities that host the event usually rake in triple the approximate $60 million it takes to hold it there.
The convention is scheduled to be held the week of July 25 and the Republican one in Cleveland is set for the week of July 18.
