If you think Harvey Weinstein is the first producer to make unbelievable magic happen during awards season, you are wrong. Back in 1956, Michael Todd - the force behind the Todd-AO aspect ratio format - managed to convince the world that Around The World In 80 Days was the best thing to happen to the movies since they started to talk. As anyone who has sat through all three hours of it can tell you though, it certainly is not.
The movie is better known for its parade of cameos and Saul Bass’ delightful animated credits than anything else. All you really need to know about it is that Shirley MacLaine plays an Indian princess. Yeah.
