8. A Beautiful Mind, Ron Howard, 2001
I’ll never quite understand how Russell Crowe got so hot that he lead two straight Best Picture winners. The year after Ridley Scott’s violent Gladiator won, he starred in Ron Howard’s A Beautiful Mind, an incredibly inaccurate look at the life of mathematician John Nash. It’s a well put together movie, but boils down to a cliche biopic of A Great Man. At least Jennifer Connelly deserved her Best Supporting Actress Oscar.
